Volunteering at the Historical Museum is an Enriching Experience

Mar 23, 2011 | 1:52 PM

Are you interested in old things and have a little time to spare? Why not volunteer at the Prince Albert Museums!

There are many opportunities to volunteer in the museum; working in the archives with the documents and photographs; working with the artifact collection- cleaning and care of artifacts, changing the displays; working with the public by giving tours/demonstrations.

These are just a few ideas, there are many more things you can do! It can be as little as a hour a week and anyone can be a volunteer!

The museum is currently looking for those who are able to demonstrate and explain various pioneer activities such as using a spinning wheel, rag rug braiding, embroidery and tatting, etc.

If there are Aboriginal people who would like to educate students in their craft (birch bark biting, beading, flint knapping, etc.), the museum wants to develop programs around that as well.

These demonstrations are only limited by the volunteers that respond. The demonstrations would be used for school tours and special events at the museum.

If you or know of someone who possesses these skills or others please phone Michelle at the Historical Museum (764-2992
