A virtually new council will lead the Beardy's and Okemasis First Nation for the next three years.

Incumbent Rick Gamble was ousted as Chief by Remonda Gardypie. She was one seven candidates running for chief and becomes the first ever female chief in the history of that First Nation.

Thirty-five people ran for council and only half of the eight incumbents retained their seats.

Elected to council were Ruby Eyahpaise, Barbara Gamble, Richard Gamble, Ralph Gardippie, Raylene Gardipy, Bryce Michael, Kurt Seeseequasus and Bernadette Thomas.
