Birch Hills Fundraising for MultiFunctional Skate Park

Mar 22, 2011 | 1:45 PM

Last fall a group of youth and parents met together to discuss the possibility of building a Multifunctional Skatepark for the community of Birch Hills.

This park would consist of a flat concrete slab measuring 60’ x 100’ with removable ramps and equipment. It will be built so it can double as a basketball court and street hockey area, making this a benefit to a wider range of people in our community.

With the support of the Recreation Board, Town and various community members and businesses, we set a goal for this project of $75,000.

To date we have raised $52,000 through grants, generous donations and a 50/50 raffle.

Our next fundraising project is a Spring Supper combined with a Silent/Work Auction. We have many strong backs that are willing to auction off their abilities to get spring projects done!!

We are looking for donations of material, gifts in kind (labor) or money to help us reach our goal.

For more information or to help us in our fundraising efforts, please contact
Kathy Evans at 749-2478 or Michelle Davidson at 749-3361. A member of our group will contact you within the next two weeks; we thank you for your consideration of supporting this community venture.

Consider:

Skateboarding is a sport that evolved from a portable device used for transportation. It
involves great skill, balance, co-ordination, perseverance and a lot of practice.
Skateboarders in Birch Hills over the past 30 years have used different areas in our community
for their makeshift ramps and rails. Many times their materials were vandalized
or disassembled. For the last couple of years they have used a small concrete slab east of
the Co-op and they have done a good job of keeping it tidy and out of the way of cars and
pedestrians. A skateboarder cannot skate on a a littered surface!
