Biggest drug bust ever in Saskatoon

Saskatoon's biggest drug bust ever is turning up things police are not use to seeing.

Seven people face charges after a kilo and a half of cocaine, 1650 ecstasy pills, a large amount of cash, and 21 grams of marijuana were seized after a three month long investigation. But Police say they also found a drug they were not expecting to find.

“Heroin we haven't seen in quantities like this ever, for years, and years,” said Sergeant Dean Hoover.

At total of eight homes were searched. Hoover says police were surprised at the sheer quantity of drugs found.

“We had not idea, to tell you the truth. I was saying to the guys before we started our warrants the other night, we'd be happy with a few ounces coke,” said Hoover.

Ten years ago when Hoover first joined the drug section, finding guns during a drug search was rare, but he says that's certainly not the case anymore.

“You know every time we do a media release, we're saying 'guns, and bear spray, and baseball bats,' and weapons are becoming more prevalent all the time,” said Hoover.

And that was certainly the case in this instance. A long list was found during this investigation .

“Two semi automatic handguns, a sawed off shot gun, bear spray, and brass knuckles,” said Hoover.

Five of the seven people arrested are from BC. The other two are from Saskatoon. All appeared in court today and all are being remanded in custody until their next court appearance.
