A wintery blast for central Saskatchewan

Mar 17, 2011 | 6:22 AM

Just when Saskatoon and area residents thought we were though with wintery weather- Mother Nature pulls an April Fool's prank- on St. Patrick's Day. Snow overnight Wednesday into Thursday created dangerous conditions on some roads.

Highway 7 was the scene of a big headache Thursday morning, after a semi truck jack-knifed on the slippery pavement- blocking both lanes of traffic near Harris. Some cars were held up for over an hour. The Highway Hotline was not reccommending travel east and west of Saskatoon due to reduced visibility, slippery spots, slush, blowing snow, and snow drifts.

It was the same story in the Rosetown area on Highway 7, and east of Saskatoon around Kamsack, and Elfros. Not all highways were reporting poor conditions. The Highway Hotline has a detailed list of road conditions.

Saskatoon city intersections were also a bit slippery once again, and many residential streets that were starting to clear up due to the melt were back to being rutted and difficult to navigate.
