Pet license fees settled

Mar 15, 2011 | 6:21 AM

After months of debate and public response, the city has finally agreed on pet license fees.

The latest iteration of the responsible pet bylaw will give preferential fees to animals that have been spayed or neutered. Those animals will be charged $20, while animals that are not spayed or neutered will be licensed for $40.

In the same motion, council approved an increase to $60 for unaltered pets to occur in 2013. They also voted that pet licenses could be sold at city council as well as whichever organization is acting as the city’s poundkeeper, which is presently the SPCA.

While city voted in favour of the changes, it will still have to be rewritten into bylaws by administration and brought back to council for vote and public consideration.
