The Honorary Team at the Monty FUNspiel

Mar 10, 2011 | 2:19 PM

The Mont St Joseph Monty FUNSpiel was a recent activity for us.

Above is the resident “Honorary Team” who were introduced to our 128 participants by bag pipe throughout the entire curling club where Michael McLaughlin of the Prince Albert Highlanders Pipes and Drums group made his way upstairs to play for them and take pictures.

Mont St. Joseph Home is a faith based special care home affiliated with the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region. It was founded in 1944 by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Cross.  In 1988 the Sisters turned ownership of the Home over to the Prince Albert Roman Catholic Diocese. Today the Home is governed by a Board of Directors drawn from members of the Prince Albert Community at large.

We are home to 120 residents, 150 staff, approximately 300 active and dedicated volunteers consisting of Resident families, Board Members, Ladies Auxiliary members, friends, students, service clubs and individuals of the community. We strive to live by our Vision “A welcoming Christian Community giving life meaning.”

Mont St. Joseph Home has 12 – 10 bed neighborhoods that consist of large single bedrooms with private bathrooms and large low windows, each 10 bed neigborhood is surrounded by a common kitchen/living room area. Residents of each neighborhood share meals in a community dining room setting. Mont St. Joseph Home was also built to accommodate dementia residents with secure wandering areas and door alarm systems. The Holy Family Chapel includes the altar and several chapel furnishings from the Holy Family Hospital Chapel (closed in the fall of 1997) and the chapel of the old Mont St. Joseph Home. This Chapel provides a home from which our spiritual and pastoral care emanates from.

In January of 1999 the Board of Directors of Mont St. Joseph Home adopted the Eden Alternative PhilosophyTM. With this philosophy came many changes including the opening of the Blooms and Buds Intergenerational Child Care Center. Together, our extended ‘family’ of Residents, their family(s), our staff and volunteers are committed to addressing the three plaques: loneliness, helplessness and boredom.

Our website address is www.montstjoseph.org  ( we are still making it better each and every day… it is a new tool for us).
