Canada Remembers Air Show to take flight again this summer in Saskatoon

The roar of jet engines will again pierce the quiet sky above Saskatoon this summer. After a year off, plans are in motion to bring back the Cameco Canada Remembers International Air Show.

“A lot of people understand the importance of something like this to our community and to our veterans,” said organizer Brian Swidrovich, who's thrilled at the prospect of another air show. This year's event, scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 6-7, is dubbed “Festival for Heroes.”

Swidrovich admitted some details still have to be ironed out. The biggest issue is securing airspace above Auto Clearing Motor Speedway just north of Saskatoon, a few kilometres from Diefenbaker International Airport. The performance would require a large show box measuring 7,000 feet by 3,000 feet (approx. 2.1 km by 0.9 km).

“We've already had a couple of meetings about this in the past. There's some general understandings,” he explained. “I think we can pull it off quite capably.”
