Saskatchewan advances to Scotties final with 7-5 win over Ontario

Feb 27, 2011 | 7:53 AM

Amber Holland and Team Saskatchewan got what they wanted — a rematch with Team Canada for all the marbles at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Saskatchewan beat Ontario 7-5 in Saturday's semifinal. Holland capitalized on mistakes by a young team led by 21-year-old Rachel Homan to steal two in the 5th end and score a deuce with the hammer in the 9th.

Ontario isn't done just yet. Homan's rink will play Nova Scotia in the Scotties' first-ever bronze medal game Sunday afternoon.

Sunday's final (5:30 p.m.) will be the third meeting at this year's tournament between Holland and three-time defending champion Jennifer Jones. Saskatchewan beat Team Canada 9-3 in the round robin, but the team from Kronau was not nearly as sharp in the 1-2 page playoff game on Friday, falling 10-9.
