To Save A Life Team Visits La Ronge

The To Save a Life Team made their way to La Ronge this past Friday at the Kikinahk Friendship Centre.

Mayor Thomas Sierzycki of La Ronge opened the evening with a welcome and an introduction to the evening events.

Mayor Thomas & the Town Council backed this initiative from the very beginning by bringing it to the Town Council meeting prior to our first visit with them in early February and helped promote the event in the La Ronge's paper 'The Northener'.

Chief Tammy Cook-Searson was also present and spoke immediately after the film and gave an inspiring message of hope to all the adults and youth present.

After losing her own sister to suicide she understood and could speak about the tragedy and grief of being a victim of suicide.

She captivated the audience by speaking words of encouragement and telling the audience  to reach out and not be afraid to share what you are going through.

Go to the people who can help you because they want to help you through the situation you are in, whether it is a social worker, mental therapist, counsellor, minister, youth group leader, they care and love you.

With the that not to many dry eyes were left with what Chief Tammy shared, such a powerful message spoken with great care, concern and love.

Mark Romanow from Mamawetan Churchill River – Youth Addictions Services then debriefed the Awareness Facts and spoke of what they deal with everyday and how they can help those not just dealing with addictions, but many other teen personal & social issues.

The event saw support from Northern Victims Services resources and volunteers, Mamawetan Churchill River Health Services-Mental Health resources and volunteers, Mamawetan Churchill River – Youth Addictions Services resources and volunteers, ASIST trained volunteers, and local church groups (Lutheran Fellowship, Alliance Church, United Church, and Anglican Church).

There was much conversation after with adults and youth with the Community Groups & Services and with our To Save a Life Team.

We know we were able to touch many youth and them 'getting' the message that they can make a difference to help save a life!

The big ASK we want the from the audience is: START A CONVERSATION – You have the power to save a life!

The thought we leave with the audience is: Very difficult to commit suicide if someone else is holding your hand!

Anyone wanting to be part of the To Save a Life – Prince Albert Team, please feel free to contact us! We are looking for as many that have a passion to touch a generation of youth & young adults who are in desperate situations that feel they can't make it through and need someone to reach out to.

To many are dying to be heard, you can be the difference maker!

We are doing much traveling to many different First Nations Reserves across the Northern part of Saskatchewan and are beginning into bridge into Alberta in the next two and half months.
