Something for everyone at Voices of the North

Feb 17, 2011 | 1:07 PM

The Voices of the North Show is a three-day event which brings out musical talent from both local and provincial performers.

Producer Sheryl Kimbley said, new for this year is the Northern Spirits Showcase.

“They’re going to be producing and emceeing and doing the set design and stagehand work all by themselves so were going to be just as excited to have them there with us as they are to be with us,” Kimbley said.

Northern Spirit Showcase will be performing on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Voices of the North performers will take to the stage each evening.

“We have an extremely gifted band and we really put a lot of trust into our performers,” Kimbley said
Auditions happened back in October.

“Then we don’t see our performers or bands until a couple of days before the show happens and we do one rehearsal and one dress rehearsal and then we go right into the show.”

Kimbley said they try to show a wide variety of musical styles so everyone can walk away happy.

“This year we have six or seven bands, all of aboriginal talent. I think everybody is really going to enjoy themselves.”

She said this year they added some new bands including The Outlaws.

“They’re very popular in the northern community and we’ve come to find out that people from Southern Saskatchewan and other provinces are coming to buy tickets and are finding ways to join us because these bands are so awesome.”

Kimbley said the show’s run is quite an expensive to put on but it’s worth it because it’s really good role model of what aboriginal people can do.

A Cabaret caps off the event on Saturday night. The show is the one fundraiser they do to support the event each year.

This is the 19th annual Voices of the North show and Kimberly said they are very thankful for the how much the Prince Albert community comes out to support the event each year.

For people still needing tickets Kimbley said they will be selling them at the door.
