Fiebelkorn gets the call

The Prince Albert Raiders have recalled 16 year-old goaltender Brenden Fiebelkorn from the Winnipeg Hawks of the Winnipeg Midget AAA Hockey League.

Fiebelkorn was the Raiders 4th round selection, 78th overall in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft. He has appeared in 18 games for the league leading Winnipeg Hawks this season with a 13-0-2 record, 2 shutouts and a 2.27 goals against average.

He will back up Eric Williams Wednesday at home against the Swift Current Broncos and this Friday in Saskatoon.  Veteran netminder Jamie Tucker is listed as week-to-week with a badly cut thumb on his blocker hand.  The 19-year-old had to leave Saturday's game in Regina late in the first period after sustaining the injury in a goal mouth collision with Regina captain Garrett Mitchell.

It was terrible timing as Tucker looked confident with six saves and the Raiders leading 1-0.  The Pats would take advantage of turnovers, bad line changes and other mistakes to score four times in just over five minutes on Williams who had recorded a 4-3 win over Lethbridge the night before.  Williams stops all four of those shots on most nights but recovered to play a strong second period and a sensational third.

It's ironic that Williams is now the go-to-guy in goal.  He was called up around this time last season to back up Tucker when starter Garrett Zemlack was injured in a goal crease collision.

The Raiders are just one point behind Brandon for the final Eastern playoff spot with one game in hand.  They trail the Broncos by two points with two games in hand heading into Wednesday's crucial clash at the Art Hauser Centre.
