Record breaker for Women on Snowmobiles

Feb 6, 2011 | 4:06 PM

It’s a record breaking year for the Prairie Women on Snowmobiles.

They raised $226,643.03 for breast cancer research. That is the most money the 1,800 km trek has ever raised. The total was announced in Hudson Bay Friday night, which was the final stop on their eight day road trip. The ride began Jan. 28, in Meadow Lake.

Carol McKnight, Vice-President of Prairie Women on Snowmobiles said the trip went wonderfully and even after more than a week of riding, the ladies did not want the trek to be over.

“It’s all about the supporters and the survivors for sure, and we have seemed to see more survivors along the way,” McKnight said.

She said the support has been so good throughout the journey that even when a couple of ladies’ vehicles broke down some businesses stepped up to help them finish.

“Ag World in Kinistino and Discovery Ford in Humboldt come through with sleds for the ladies so they
Could continue on the mission which is really really appreciated.”

McKnight said they were grateful for the people from all over Saskatchewan that helped out and made donations.

“The plans are in the works for mission 2012 … we look forward to setting the trail.”
