“It's work we're doing through the Ministry to look at what the cost will be for the provincial government into the future.”

He says the current arrangement is an arbitrary number picked by the former government.

Municipalities need more money for health care, said Allan Earle, president of SUMA.

“Whether that's 20 percent, or 25 percent. I don't know,” said Earle. “And I wouldn't want to attempt to put a number on what other communities will have to do.”

Earle is also hopeful the province will address what he calls an affordable housing crisis.

A summit will be held in April to deal with the issue.
