Regan changes plea to guilty

A member of the Terror Squad gang will learn his fate next month.

Lance Regan, 23, pleaded guilty to eight of the 28 charges against him, seven of which he said he’s guilty as a party to the offence rather than the principal offender. 

Some of the charges he pleaded guilty to include aggravated assault, robbery, and unlawful confinement.  The rest of the charges have been stayed.

The charges stem from a number of violent incidents at the Manville Bay apartment block on Nov. 3, 2008, which left five people hospitalized.

Regan, along with others, invaded two residences in the area.  They threatened and assaulted some of its occupants and demanded drugs and money.

One of the victims, Derek Ryder, was assaulted to the extent of unconsciousness.  He suffered brain damage and memory loss from the attack.

They also forced Amanda Basaraba to drive them, along with Gerald Parfitt, another victim, to a residence to get drugs.

“I apologize to the victims … I look forward to bettering my life,” said Regan in court.

Both the Crown and defence have agreed on a 10-year prison sentence, but are still arguing what his remand credit should be.

The Crown wants the remand credited at time and a half for time served, which would mean Regan would spend another seven years and four months in prison.

The defence is arguing for double time served, as well as triple time served for the time he spent in segregation at the federal penitentiary in Prince Albert and Edmonton. That would mean Regan would have four years and eleven months left to serve.

Regan is the last of four people to be sentenced in the case. Sentencing will be on Mar. 9.
