Man representing family of dead foster child hopes for changes within the system

The man who represented the family of a three-year-old boy who died in foster care two years ago is looking for action after a coroner's inquest put forward seven recommendations for the ministry of social services.

Bob Hughes hopes the recommendations will make a difference, saying an inquest like this is needed to help give the family involved some answers. However, he admits what comes out of such a process isn't always new.

“We've seen lots of inquests, we've seen lots of recommendations and often we haven't seen any action,” said Hughes.

Even if in some cases the recommendations seem to be vague, he argues it at least provides some direction for the ministry, so long as they do something with them.
