Wok Box and Fat Burger to come to Prince Albert

Jan 28, 2011 | 5:16 AM

Prince Albert will soon have more selection when it comes to choosing a place to go out to eat.

Restaurant franchises Fat Burger and Wok Box have announced they will be moving into the new Cornerstone development this spring.

“The consumers … dictate where we go and Prince Albert just hit our demographics right on the nose,” said Laurence Eade, chief operating officer for Wok Box.

Wok Box which specializes in Asian pan food such as stir fry plans to be open by May and will be the fifth location in Saskatchewan, Eade said.

Fat Burger is using Prince Albert to break ground in the province. Dianna Lasenby, senior concept leader for the chain, said they expect to open in mid-June or early July.

The burger chain originated in southern California in 1952 and expanded into Canada about five years ago.

“We’re very family friendly,” said Lasenby.

The burger chain is well known for its milk shakes, home-made onion rings and their signature Fat Burger, she said.

The restaurants will create about 20 jobs each.

Cornerstone will also become the home of an existing business. Prairie Mobile is expanding its Prince Albert operation and planning to open a second location in the retail district in October.

“The plans have been underway for a couple years now and are finally coming to fruition,” said Gord Dobrowolsky, manager of Prairie Mobile.

“Prince Albert and area have been very supportive over the last 12 years since we arrived and we felt it would be good time to expand,” he said.

Dobrowolsky estimates the new location will create about six jobs.

A 19,000 square foot commercial space, next to the new Royal Bank is almost complete. Earlier this week, City council gave preliminary approval for two more large developments.
