Blog, Blog, Blah, Blah

What is a blog any way? It sounds scary and daunting.

As Community Affairs Editor – the term has meant a kind of head-ache. It is a term that has created fear and anxiety amongst my otherwise confident and happy “bloggers” from our local community groups.

Technically, the entries we see posted periodically through the day – every day – in the Community Group News are blogs.

In reality – they are “write-ups” of information emailed to me, sometimes with a photo, which I post on panow.com. Technically, a blog is a website that displays in chronological order the postings by one or more individuals and usually has links to comments on specific postings. That’s what we have at panow.com’s Community Group News.

 Easy Peasy.

But I want to address the spirit of blogging in general.

I love blogging. To me, it is the modern day equivalent of journal writing and letter writing, combined, in that a blog is a journal entry which is directed to outside people.

Personally, I am a huge fan of a number of cooking blogs such as humblepie.com and evilshenanigans.com. These are blogs, which are like beautiful cooking magazines with glorious photos and detailed recipes – but the entries are made by a real person who has actually made the delicacies entered. The entries don’t just include the recipe – but also comments about the process: if it took more than one try, hurdles to over-come and so on. Often, the blog authors travel and then “blog” i.e. post, information about the foods or culinary experiences encountered.

These blogs are very personal and directed toward a specific audience.

As time passes Community Group News is growing and evolving. Now I am noticing that the blog posts are starting to change somewhat.

Most of the groups and organizations are using the “blog” provided to them to disseminate information to the public that is specific: times, dates, events.

More recently though, a few groups have embraced a more personal approach to their blog. As you can see, the Klassic Kruisers Kar Klub has started the trend by doing personal blog entries for different members – talking about why they are in the club, the vehicles they are working on and so on.

Now, Our House – a project of the YWCA – has recruited a “blogger”, James Eninew, who is providing a more personal and “inside” write-up.

There are more of these to come.

Both styles of using the panow.com Community Group News blog pages are perfect.  I am enjoying so much the emails and interviews and conversations with all of the bloggers.

Though I primarily work from my home in Kinistino, I am now in PA at the Rawlco office one day per week. I am using this time, in part, to get out and meet the bloggers personally and I can’t wait to get out there more.

Have a great week and maybe I will see you soon.
