Realtors hammer out new Habitat for Humanity fundraiser

Prince Albert realtors will be selling more than just homes this year.

Agents with the Prince Albert & District Association of Realtors have been tasked with selling $100 hammers to support the work of Habitat for Humanity.

“Well it’s fantastic,” said Morris Sawchuk, president of the group.

Sawchuk said the initiative comes at a good time with the organization embarking on a greater building year.

“We’re going to build three homes and there’s a possibility of a fourth.”

“This helps us to finance a need that exists in this town. There’s a tremendous need for affordable housing and it allows us to expand the program.”

The fundraiser is through the realtor association’s Quality of Life division, which supports programs and organizations that help build a stronger community.

“It’s a chance for us to give back to our communities so everyone has a chance to live in a decent home,” said Elaine McMillan, Quality of Life chairwoman.

The sales of hammers started in Moose Jaw and are being done by Quality of Life groups province wide, said McMillan.

The goal is to raise $25,000. The hammers can be purchased through any real estate agent in the city.
