First Nation prepares for flooding
An east-central Saskatchewan First Nation is growing concerned about what will happen when the snow melts.
Flooding is an annual problem for the Red Earth Cree Nation, forcing many people to leave their homes. In years past, residents have grabbed whatever their arms could hold, then boarded a bus for Prince Albert.
The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority is forecasting the potential for high spring-runoff due to an average to above average snowfall.
“We will be preparing and look at what needs to be done before the spring flood comes in,” said Chief Miller Nawakayas.
