Prince Albert “spares” time for KidSport

Without KidSport Cheryl Sanderson isn’t sure if they would have had the money to pay for their daughter’s dance lessons.

“It would have been a real struggle,” Sanderson said. The Sanderson’s were one of 20 teams that took part in the KidSport Gutter Ball Classic at Minto Rec Centre Sunday.

“It went very well. Everybody had lots fun,” said Gen Klingenberg, a KidSport volunteer who estimates the event raised about $5,000 for the Prince Albert chapter.

KidSport is an organization that provides financial support to children so they can participate in organized sport. Since its creation in 1993, more than 110,000 kids have been given the opportunity to play.

KidSport not only alleviates the financial burden, but it gets kids involved in sport, Klingenberg said.

Sanderson said it helped her oldest daughter Marie find her calling in life.

“We found a way through KidSport to pay for her dancing every year and she just loves it.”

Marie is now working toward her bachelor of education and majoring in dance at the University of Regina, Sanderson said.

The Sanderson’s are turning to KidSport to help them with their three other children. They say there grateful for the support and do what they can to give back to the organization which has given them so much.

“We volunteer a lot. If I’m not working I’m volunteering,” she said.

All the monies collected from Sunday’s event stay with the Prince Albert chapter for supporting children in the city and northern Saskatchewan who want to participate in sport.
