Hoback in the riding

Prince Albert MP, Randy Hoback, is using passport clinics to spend time in the community before spring session begins.

“We always get accused of never being involved in the riding outside of election time and I’m really trying to look for things where we can be actively involved in helping people in the riding and this is just one of those initiatives,” said Hoback.

The passport clinics bring a photographer to rural communities and have people fill out their passport application.

“It just makes convenient and easier especially for older people and people who can’t get to the cities to get their passport applications done,” he said.

“I brought my staff in and it’s good we get anywhere from 200 to 500 people at each of these clinics so it’s a good opportunity for me to visit and get a good finger on the pulse on what is going on in these communities, plus it’s a good chance for my staff in Ottawa to get out and meet and see what’s going on in the riding.”

This is the beginning of public feedback that Hoback says he is looking for because he always wants to hear from constituents on suggestions for stimulating the economy.

“We are also looking for ideas on how, in the budget and outside the budget, on how to stimulate the economy without generating more expense for the government. We can’t spend more money, but there might be things we can do by eliminating red tape or taking existing money and being more efficient how we can deliver that money to excising programs, so we are looking for ideas on how to move forward on that.”

There are also plans underway to hold roundtables on crime legislation with the parliamentary secretary coming sometime in February, Hoback said.

Hoback said he wants to see crime legislation move forward in the spring session, which begins at the end of January.
