Enterprise region expects results moving into third year

A few years of studies and surveys should start to turn into results for communities say the North Central Enterprise Region.

On Tuesday, NCR held an open house to update the community about their first two years as an organization.
NCR CEO John Ondruserk told the crowd that the region had completed its Labour Market and Business Retention surveys and were now ready to implement the data and start producing results for communities involved.

“We have many areas that we have to implement now and that’s working through our partners,” said Ondrusek.

“We identified needs through our strategies and what could be done but now we have to do that work and that’s multiple years of work with multiple partners.”

Ondrusek said those results would take many forms including more investors from outside the region and more strategies for businesses to use to keep employees and attract new ones.

Ondrusek also said there would be an emphasis on increasing tourism to the region.

As well, he said now that the larger region-wide work had been completed, there would be a greater focus on the 53 individual cities, towns, First Nations rural municipalities within the region.

“In the previous years we did a much broader business retention and expansion survey and interviewed 200 businesses throughout out the area,” said Ondrusek.

“Now we’re doing a more micro-approach where we go to those specific communities so they can look at what’s happening on the broad spectrum but also focus in just on their community and what their needs are.”
