Support pouring in for local family

Jan 17, 2011 | 10:22 AM

Last Thursday, Don Bruce watched helplessly as his home burnt to the ground.

He lived in the trailer north of Prince Albert with his wife, his daughter and his two granddaughters. The family lost everything.

Lakeland Ford in Prince Albert has been collecting donations for the family.

“As a group here at the store we raised close to $3,000 for the family in cash,” said Scott Newson, general sales manager, who added they have also donated household items, clothing and toys for the kids.

Owner Vaughn Wyant also agreed to match all donations dollar-for-dollar.

Over the weekend people from the community were dropping off cheques and various household items.

Newson said getting involved was an easy choice.

“Don's son worked for us and we are a pretty tight knit group at Lakeland and we pride ourselves on if someone is in need, we like to be there for one another.”

Donations can be dropped off directly at Lakeland Ford.

A space has been set aside within the dealership for all the donations.

The girls are 12 years old and 6 months old. They lost all of their Christmas presents.
