Skiers take to the trails for diabetes

It is the first of what organizers hope to be many.

At 11 a.m. cross-country skiers took to the trails at Little Red River Park for the 2011 Cosmo Classic Loppet. It is the first time they have held the event.

There were 73 people out on trails. They came from as far away as Humboldt, Timber Bay, Saskatoon and Ile-a-la-Crosse.

Some skiers were saying it was the best snow they have seen in years.

Organizers said they were happy with the turn out – they only expected 40-50 entries – and are hoping for even more next year.

All the money raised is going to diabetes. Organizers said registrations alone brought in about $1,500. They estimated $2,000 was raised in total.
