Prince Albert & District Palliative Care Association Has Changed It’s Name

The Prince Albert and District Palliative Care Association has changed its name. They are now being called the Prince Albert Parkland Hospice Palliative Care Association.
Christine Rye, R.N. Chairperson of the Association stated that the name change was necessary to coincide with the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region rather District as well as adopting the concept of Hospice Palliative care that both the Provincial and National Associations have incorporated.
The P.A.P.H.P.C.A upholds and respects the quality of life for each individual with a terminal illness. Palliative Care is a program of active, compassionate care directed towards improving the quality of life for the dying. Services are coordinated to provide each individual and their family with a multi-disciplinary team to aid in this. This team provides sensitive, skilled care to meet the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of both patient and family.
The Association was founded in 1993. Its mandate includes support for individuals with a terminal illness, their families and the Hospice Palliative care team through provision of educational opportunities as well as purchasing much needed equipment from donations received through the Association. An example of this would be the recent purchase of a specialized air mattress for pressure relief. This will be invaluable for palliative patients to prevent pressure sores. The Prince Albert Parkland Hospice and Palliative Care Association and Prince Albert Home Care shared the $5,000.00 price tag for this mattress.
The Association is a strong advocate for quality care provision for individuals living with a terminal illness at community, provincial and national levels. Its membership is diverse including health care professionals, volunteers and members of the community. All of these individuals are committed to the betterment of Hospice Palliative Care services in health care facilities as well as in the community.
