The Canadian Taxpayers Federation challenging Premier to lower taxes

The Canadian Taxpayer Federation is pushing the Wall government to make a resolution – lower taxes and pay off the debt.

Colin Craig, a spokesperson with the lobby group, said Saskatchewan is doing very well financially and there is no reason we can't compete with Alberta and B.C. when it comes to taxes.

“If the debt had have been paid off the government could have saved $435 million annually debt servicing cost so it’s no different than paying off your credit card,” Craig said.

The lobby group also wants the government to keep spending levels in check.

They suggest injecting some competition to improve results and lower costs.

“Saskatchewan is rich with resources. It routinely leads Canada as one of the top dogs in economic growth. A lot of people are say you know I want my piece of the pie and I don’t want it from the government in terms of social services. All the money that the government is raking in I want it back through lower taxes and that’s exactly what we’re pushing for,” Craig said.

The group wants to see the province move towards a 10 per cent flat tax with an increase in the basic personal exemption.
