Well wishes given in Victoria Hospital

Dec 16, 2010 | 3:14 PM

Just in time for Christmas, the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region has launched the Well Wishes for Patients program.

Designed to connect patients to the outside world, people can go online and fill out a form and send a message to friends and family members in the hospital.

“It will be hand delivered in a sealed envelope by our volunteers to the patients’ room,” said Sonya Jahn, director of volunteer services for the region.

By clicking on a link at princealbertparklandhealth.com well-wishers just need to include the name and, if known, the room number of the patient to the message.

This type of program is good for patient’s healing, said Jahn.

“It does play an important role. It simply boosts the spirit of the patient because they are having some contact with family and friends and it boosts their spirits that they know that someone is thinking about them,” she said.

The program is being rolled out slowly.

“We’re piloting this projects specifically in the Victoria Hospital first then looking we’ll be looking at unveiling it in the rest of the region,” Jahn said.

The email is checked at 1 p.m. every weekday and will be delivered to patients slightly after 2 p.m.

Emails received after 1 p.m. or on weekends will be delivered the next business day. If the patients have already been discharged the email will not be delivered.
