YWCA Is Busy With Settling NewComers and Providing Winter Fun … Volunteers Always Needed

Dec 9, 2010 | 6:28 PM

Settlement Services
In the last few months we have been busy with many different activities.

In October we participated in Homelessness Action week (Oct 12-15). Settlement Services partnered with the Regional Newcomer Centre to host an event at the RNC that looked at Homelessness through the eyes of newcomers.  Thank you to everyone who participated!

The following week our SWIS program was officially launched with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event went over very well and everyone is looking forward to seeing this program thrive.

November has been a busy month for us as we have had a new family arrive through our program. And with fall now behind us we are looking forward to planning our winter festivities. On Saturday December 11th
at 2 pm we will be sledding at Little Red River Park, followed by hot chocolate and treats! Everyone is welcome to join us. If you need transportation to the park please meet at the YWCA (1895 Central Avenue) at 1:30 pm that afternoon.

We’d also like to remind everyone to keep our volunteer program in mind if you are looking for things to do this winter, or anytime.

We are always looking for individuals or families to host newcomers. It’s a great way to learn about different cultures and create lasting friendships!

Please call our office at 763-0736, if you’d like more information.
From all of us at Settlement Services we wish everyone a happy & safe holiday season and the very best in 2011.
