SIAST and SGEU to start talking again

At a time when students are busy writing exams, news of a mediator may help put those at SIAST more at ease.

The college and its instructors union, SGEU, have come to an agreement to help get back to the negotiating table.

SIAST's Gary Earles said he's optimistic a settlement can be reached before Christmas.

The SGEU has agreed to one of two names of mediators put forward by management to help solve the long-standing contract dispute.

Jim Steele with the union's negotiating committee said mediation could begin as soon as later this week.
