PA and Area Community Foundation – We Exist to Help Charities

Dec 6, 2010 | 2:29 PM

December is a time when we thinking of giving to family and friends, in the Christmas spirit. It’s also an ideal time to think about giving donations to charitable causes, in the spirit doing of good and of thinking ahead to tax time.

For the past ten years, the Prince Albert and Area Community Foundation has been quietly helping charities in the city and surrounding area, by being a conduit between those who want to help and groups that need help.

The PAACF began in 1999 and follows the principles of Community Foundations of Canada, including the fundamental rule that donations to a community foundation are never spent; they are held in perpetuity and only the interest is spent to support charities.

Since its beginning, the PAACF has provided more than $300,000 to local charities to help everyone from children with disabilities to the elderly. We have been able to access funds from outside the province, from donors wanting to give back to their home communities or to distribute funds throughout Canada. Most importantly, we have provided a means for local donors to leave a legacy to their community.

The need, however, is always so much greater than what can be given. Past donors are gratefully appreciated, but new donors are also needed.

If you are thinking about making a gift to your community this season, or considering a long-term plan for giving, talk to one of our board members or executive director about the possibilities within the Prince Albert and Area Community Foundation.

You can establish a family fund, a charity-specific fund, or make a donation to the general fund to meet ongoing needs. PAACF is a registered charity with CRA and a Saskatchewan non-profit corporation.
