Raiders vs Hurricanes

pre-game summary

Coming off a shutout loss to the Red Deer Rebels Friday night, the Raiders, who played a solid road game, are looking for a more offensive spark tonight against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

This is the Raiders last game in a central division road swing thats has seen them play three games in four nights.

Lethbridge (11-11-2-3) is also looking to get back into the win collumn, losers of three straight.

A win for the Raiders (10-16-2-2) tonight will inch them closer to the Hurricanes who are currently sitting two spots ahead in the very tight Eastern Conference standings.

the last time these two teams met was November 19th and the Raiders embarrased the Hurricanes in Lethbridge with a lopsided 9-3 victory, a loss the Hurricanes certainly haven't forgot.

1st period summary

An early Lethbridge Hurricanes break-away was turned away by Raider goalie Jamie Tucker, playing in back to back nights, and his third straight start.

Veteran Nathan Deck scored his first goal of the campaign to open the scoring at 7:39 with a one-time feed from Ryan Button on the power play.

With the assist, the Boston Bruins draft pick leads all Raiders defensemen with 15 points this season.

At 14:10, centre Mark McNeill would net his 12th of the year to put the Raiders up 2-0.

The Raiders would go up 3-0 on another powerplay opportunity as Igor Revenko ripped one off the post but Mark Mcneill pounced on the rebound to score his second of the game at 17:53.

Hurricanes Goalie Dylan Tait would come in to replace goalie Brandon Anderson after 3 goals on 9 shots

Shots after the first period: Raiders – 9, Hurricanes – 11

2nd period summary

The hurricanes would waste no time getting back into the game as Cam Braise would put one top shelf at 1:36.  A Barrage of teddy bears would hit the ice soon after as it was Teddy Bear night at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge.

After the teddy bears were cleared, the Hurricanes would continue to press, but Raiders centre Mark Mcneill had other plans.

After a nice breakout pass by Igor Revenko, Mark Mcneill went in alone on goalie Dylan Tait and beat him stick side to register the hat trick goal at the 13:15 mark.

this was Mark Mcneill's 1st career WHL hat trick and restored the Raiders three goal lead.

shots after the second period: Raiders – 17, Hurricanes – 24

3rd period summary

The Raiders would open the third period with a bang.  Tyler Yaworski would lay out Austin Fyten with a huge open ice hit.  This would start a malay of penalties against the Hurricanes.

After a few successful Lethbridge kills, the Hurricanes penalty troubles continued with Jamie Tucker drawing a goaltender interference call.  Raiders defensemen James Bettauer capatalized on the powerplay with his second tally on the season at 5:50.

The Raiders went 3/10 on the powerplay and for a second straight visit in Lethbridge, disciplinary difficultties for the Hurricanes and a fight filled third period was the big story.
