Community Christmas Dinner Needs Donations and Volunteers

Nov 30, 2010 | 7:35 PM

The planning for the 2010 Community Christmas Dinner is well underway.

Based on our experience from previous years and based on the responses so  far, we are expecting to serve about 1000 – 1500 meals on Christmas Day  (this would include delivery of meals to the elderly and to other shut-ins), to prepare about 400/500 candy bags for the children (thanks to the teachers and students of St. Mary involved in the stuffing of all  those bags), and to hand out hundreds of toys to the children as well as  Christmas door prizes to those in attendance.

The meal and the activities will take place in St. Mary High School  (thanks again to the Principal, teachers and Students of St. Mary for the  use of these wonderful facilities, particularly the kitchen) on December  25th, 2010 from 12 noon to 5 pm.

While the community has responded like never before, we are still in need of the following :

 a) groups/individuals willing to provide “periods of Christmas entertainment” (choirs, singers, small Christmas plays, etc…) – anywhere  between 10 to 30 minutes.   These will be booked into the time period from  12 noon to 5 pm.

 b) volunteers to help set up and prepare in the kitchen on December 24th,2010.

 c) volunteers to help in the kitchen, in the dining hall, as greeters,  etc… on December 25th, 2010.

d) donations of food, particularly potatoes, fresh vegetables, and other  food items (call Isabelle at 922-3071 to find out what is currently  missing)

e) donations of Christmas door prizes, small toys for the children, as  well as goodies to place in the 400/500 candy bags  f) though we are going totally by faith – we are still looking for some  more financial donations (Don't forget – this is a big undertaking – one  of the biggest in the year!!!!!)    Charitable receipts, if needed, can be  provided by Jubilation Program, a member of the organizing committee –  make cheques payable to Jubilation Program and designate to 2010 Community

 Christmas Dinner.

Thanks to all of you who have already responded.  This is so important to  the poor and the lonely on Christmas Day!!!!!  If you are involved in  social/health services in the community, invite some of your clients to  attend.  Or better, plan to attend yourself…..EVEN on Christmas Day and  make someone else happy.
