There was a new twist on a break and enter when a family found a 16-year-old boy asleep in their house in Prince Albert.

The owner of a house on the 900 block of 14th Street West found the boy at about 3 a.m. Tuesday morning.

“This was an odd one. I understand that some family members were asleep,” said Sgt. Kelly McLean with the Prince Albert Police Service

“There (were) a few family members that were still awake watching a movie or whatever late in the evening.

And when those family members chose to go to bed they found this young man sleeping in an upstairs bedroom. To say it was a bit of a shock is a bit of an understatement.”

McLean said the 16 year old became aggressive when the homeowner woke him up, and then fled to the basement, where police arrested him without further incident.

There were two additional break and enters, Sunday, said McLean during the weekly police press conference.

The first occurred in the 2400 block of 2nd Avenue West when three men forced their way into an apartment, assaulted the owner before stealing cash and prescription drugs.

The second took place at the 2200 block of 6th Avenue East and resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old man. Bernard Rene Highway made an appearance at provincial court Monday and was released on bail, with several conditions.

McLean added garages and sheds are still falling victim to thieves taking small items, across Prince Albert.

A rash of thefts were initially reported in the 300 block of 11th Street East, but over the weekend more were reported from the 900 block on Cook Drive and 500 block of Laurier Drive.

“It’s whatever they can pack away easily. Whatever they can ride away or tuck under their arms, golf clubs or whatever they can get and try to turn into quick cash,” McLean said.

He said he urges people to lock up their garages and sheds and call the police if they hear any suspicious activity.
