Province gov. looks beyond BHP’s withdrawl

Saskatchewan's government is looking beyond the decision by BHP Billiton to withdraw its takeover bid for PotashCorp.

It follows the decision by the federal government not to support the potential acquisition.

Premier Brad Wall has exchanged e-mails with BHP executives. They wrote to him explaining the reasons why they had withdrawn the bid. Wall says he has no hard feelings.

“That was the sentiment I thought it was a very generous e-mail,” he said.

No doubt because as far as he is concerned BHP isn't going anywhere.

“I'm happy that they have reaffirmed their commitment in the Jansen lake project,” Wall said.

And because of that, the premier still feels he has shown you can have a balance between developing new projects and saying no to business opportunities that, in his mind, severely alter the landscape of an industry.
