Members of CEP Local 1120 voted on whether they will head back to work.
The vote took place at 2 p.m. today, and within an hour laid-off mill workers had their answer.
They were voting on a tentative agreement with Paper Excellence, a company that is looking at buying the Domtar pulp and paper mill.
While none of the members wanted to comment on the results, some called the outcome “good” and “super.”
“This is a big step for Prince Albert,” one said.
Before the vote was over one member said he expected about 98 per cent of the people to vote in favour of the tentative agreement.
Union president, Anibal Bravo, said he would not give a comment until tomorrow.
After the vote one person said the outcome was “positive.”
“I lived here since 1988 and I work at Fort McMurray seven (days) in seven out, so this still home, and I guess for a lot of people it’s the same thing,” he said adding a lot of people went west to work when the mill closed in 2006. He said he is hoping to be able to come home to work.
Today’s vote came after a four hour meeting on Saturday about the tentative agreement.
The 260 workers on the recall list received an e-mail discussing the tentative agreement that was reached with Paper Excellence earlier this month in Vancouver.
