Saskatchewan to stregthen animal protection laws

Nov 9, 2010 | 5:34 AM

Saskatchewan is beefing up its animal protection law following a high profile abuse case.

The proposed changes will help reduce the number of animal neglect cases, said Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud.

The proposed amendments include increasing jail time to a maximum of two years and raising fines to $25,000 for each convicted offence.

In June, two men from Outlook pleaded guilty in what a judge called the worst case of animal neglect in Saskatchewan history.
