Search called off for body of baby

Saskatoon police have called off the search for the remains of a newborn baby in the city's landfill.

Last month police were told a 17-year-old girl had given birth to a baby girl sometime over the Thanksgiving long weekend at her home.

The baby died and the body was then put in a garbage container outside the girl's home.

The container was picked up by a city truck and taken to the dump.

Searchers, including a forensic anthropologist, have said the chances of finding the body were slim because of the huge amount of material at the landfill.

Police said they don't know how the baby died and if the girl will be charged.
