Flu clinics see expected numbers

Nov 4, 2010 | 7:00 AM

After a month of flu shot clinics in the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region, officials are seeing expected results.

“We have administered approximately 8,500 doses so far and distributed probably up to 3,000 doses out through physician offices as well,” said Wanda Atcheson, manager of public health nursing for the region.

“I think it was about what we were expecting. When we had to request the amount of vaccine that we felt we could utilize, that was within the ball park range of what we thought we could use.”

While the daily flu shot clinics have wrapped up, people can continue to be vaccinated at McIntosh Mall

“We do have clinics running at the McIntosh building every Thursday from now through Dec. 16, with the exception of Nov.11.”

Final numbers and percentage of the vaccine coverage won’t be calculated until towards the end of the flu season, next year.

Atcheson recommends people get the vaccine as well as practice personal protection measures, such as hand washing and using the sneeze sleeve.

“I would just encourage people to continue getting their flu shot. It’s still available and we haven’t been seeing a lot of influenza so far in the province, but we know it will come,” she said.
