Care home hit by truck

Oct 30, 2010 | 9:40 AM

A care home in Prince Albert took a beating last night.
At about 4:40 a.m. a truck barrelled through the yard of North View Home on Southwood Drive. It took out the corner of the building, leaving a hole that employees said they had to fill with a towel to keep the cold out.
They said the truck continued through a fence and hit the neighbour’s garage.
It took out Chona Curtis’ car along the way.
“I was working my night shift and I heard a loud bang and I was thinking uh oh that’s my car. So I went out and sure enough that was my car,” she said.
The care home worker was parked in front of the building facing east. She says her five-year-old car was totalled.
Luckily, all the residents of the home stayed sleeping through the events.
“I think the neighbour called the police and the police came,” she said explaining the police told her they knew who caused the damage.
“It’s very exciting, it’s kind of nerve wracking. I was telling my co-worker it is nerve wracking you can see the commotion. It’s like a movie,” said Curtis.
Things were back to normal at North View Home later in the morning, even though a piece of the building was missing.
Curtis said, now it is a waiting game. She was trying to get a hold of SGI all morning, but couldn’t get through due to a high volume of calls.
There is no word yet on how much damage was done.
