Is the no texting or talking behind the wheel law working?

Since Jan. 1, all drivers in Saskatchewan are prohibited from using their cell phones while behind the wheel.
However, that doesn't necessarily mean everyone is following the rules.
Talking to people around the city, some haven't noticed a difference or changed their habits.
“I’ve been guilty of still using it sometimes. It’s just a habit, I guess,” said one person.
“I still notice people all the time. Like, driving down the street and they’re sneak-texting, and stuff like that,” said another.
Others, though, say they're obeying the rules.
“I personally have quit using my cell phone a lot,” said a Prince Albert local.
“I pay more attention. Like, if I have a text I pull over to the side. I think about safety and other drivers and stuff like that,” another person said.
So perhaps the legislation hasn't completely stopped people from texting and talking while driving. A good indicator of that is the Prince Albert Police Service stated it handed out 21 tickets for the offense in just two days.
However, if it alters some drivers’ habits, at least the law is making our streets a little safer.
