Farmers catching up on harvest

Thanks to some recent warm and sunny weather, farmers have been able to catch up on their harvesting.
The provincial average right now is at 83 per cent complete, and Grant McLean with Saskatchewan Agriculture, said here in the northeast we're just a bit below that.
“In the northeast it was a sunny and warm week, 81 per cent of the 2010 has been combined, which is a significant increase over last week’s 63 per cent,” said McLean.
However, McLean said that some of the fields are still not dry, which is making it difficult for some farmers.
“Crops are slow to dry down. Wet fields are certainly making harvest difficult. Combines are not going as fast as they’d like to… others are indicating that some of these wet fields may have to be frozen before they can support some harvesting equipment,” said McLean.
The 5 year average for this time of year is 89 per cent complete.
