PA Ambulance changes its radio system

Prince Albert Parkland Ambulance is changing its radio system.

It's changing from the FleetNet radio system to the new Provincial Public Safety Radio Network.
Lyle Karasiuk, public affairs director, and said they've made the switch because Sasktel isn't going to put anymore enhancements into their current system.

“In order to maintain safe, reliable communications, this was the recommended alternative,” said Karasiuk.

Karasiuk explained the new system has its faults, but benefits too.

“For densely populated urban centers, the bandwidth is more difficult to get through buildings, walls, that sort of stuff. But in the rural area, lay of the land, and for distance, it’s phenomenal,” said Karasiuk.

The province picked up the tab for the switch.

Karasiuk said the staff are already trained with the new equipment, and switching over will be as easy as dropping one radio and picking up the other.
