Health facility plans approved

The Prince Albert Parkland Heath Region board approved finalized drawings of three new health facilities.
At the meeting Wednesday afternoon, board members unanimously passed a motion to accept plans for Pineview Terrace Lodge, Shellbrook Integrated Facility and the Family Treatment center.
“These junctures really make sure people like myself … and AODBT feel better because they are like little checkpoints … we share information and make sure people are on the same page,” said John Piggott, vice-president of operations for the health region.
“The board needs to be informed for these major projects at certain junctures because obviously when we are working with a consultant team, like AODBT we don’t want to go too far down the wrong track and then say, ‘oh, that isn’t really what we had in mind.’”
The new Pineview Terrace Lodge will be located at the Victoria Hospital site, behind the current Herb Bassett Home. The family treatment centre will be combined with youth mental health services and built where Crean Villa is currently situated at Victoria Hospital.
Shellbrook’s integrated facility is planned for a new property east of the town.
The care homes are particularly important for the board to see as they are introducing a newer model of health care, more home like and less institutional, said Piggott.
“Because obviously this home, when it’s build, it’s going to be here for 40 plus years and it’s going to have a big impact on how we deliver care over a long period of time,” he said.
With approvals in place, the architects at the AODBT firm can move forward by creating documents for tender.
The region hopes to have all three facilities to tender by spring of next year.
