A century-old company in Saskatoon is joining an exclusive club. Miners Construction will be inducted into the Saskatchewan Business Hall of Fame later this month.

The construction company becomes the 23rd member of the hall of fame.

“We shake our head a little bit when we look at the people that we're joining in that list,” said chairman Howie Stensrud. “There's some mighty big companies there.”

Miners Construction is being recognized for its long run of success and service to the community. Stensrud was instrumental in setting up facilites like Cosmopolitan Industries, which provides jobs for hundreds of mentally and physically disabled people.

“Really, it's a celebration of the thousands of people that have worked here in the last 100 years,” Stensrud continued.

His son, Michael, is now the president and general manager of the company. He sees it as a way to honour his father's community-minded leadership.

“It's a legacy given to us by Howie Stensrud, who's been an integral part of the community here in providing services for seniors and the intellectually disabled,” said Michael Stensrud.

The elder Stensrud joined the company in 1950 and recently received the Order of Canada in recognition of his lifelong community service. He makes sure it's a value that lives on in the company to this day.

“The young people now are carrying this thing forward and making it bigger and better and stronger, and making Saskatchewan the best darn place in the whole world to live,” he said.

Miners Construction will be inducted at the 2010 ABEX Awards in Regina on Oct. 30.
