Prince Albert joined the rest of the country to honour the lives of missing and murdered Aboriginal woman, Monday night.

A candlelight vigil was held at six in the parking lot behind Sacred Heart Cathedral on 14th street west.

The Native Woman's Association of Canada started an initiative called Sisters in Spirit, which encourages people around the country to organize vigils in their communities.

Marlene Bear is an organizer of one of the events in Prince Albert.

“It doesn't matter about gender. It doesn't matter about race. It’s to honour these people and their families for what they're going through,” she said

Bear encouraged people to bring candles to light in memory of loved ones.

She said it is especially important for young people to be aware of the violence aboriginal woman face in this country.
