More people hit by cars

Parkland Ambulance in Prince Albert is noticing an alarming trend.

Over the past few weeks there has been an increase in the number of people getting hit by vehicles.
“We are seeing an average of two to three of them a week,” said Lyle Karasiuk, director of public affairs.

The trend started about three weeks ago, he said.

The latest incident happened Monday night just east of the city on Highway 55. A person who was walking along the highway was struck and now is in a Saskatoon hospital in critical condition.

Often paramedics see a spike in car versus pedestrian incidents as schools re-open in the fall, but “none of the incidents involved are related — we are talking all adult people,” said Karasiuk.

Karasiuk is not sure whether the blame falls on the drivers or pedestrians.

He said people need to be more careful and urges people who are out for a stroll or a jog to make themselves more visible by wearing bright coloured clothing.
