Search for Victor Mateyshin continues more than two weeks

Fifteen days later and the search is still on northeast of Saskatoon for 84-year-old Victor Mateyshin.

The effort to find him initially focused on a grid road about 22 km north of Dana. But Mateyshin's son, Michael, says there's a fresh lead around Prince Albert.

“Some people that were going up north had seen him at the Wal-Mart on Sept. 18,” Michael Mateyshin told News Talk Radio.

“That’s new information, so we’re switching our search up to that area, basically from the Bruno area up to the P.A. area.”

Mateyshin hopes a plane will be up in the air this weekend to look down along Highway 2 for his father's white 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, adding to the search parties driving down country roads.

“Lots of people are helping, everything’s coming along, but we still haven’t found Vic,” Michael Mateyshin said.

“He’s a pretty tough old bird. He’s an old army guy, and I know he can survive himself. Basically, we’ve got to find him. That’s the big thing.”

Victor Mateyshin is five-foot-nine, 180 pounds, with blue eyes, grey hair and glasses. His vehicle is the same type as a police car. It has Saskatchewan plates 432 HJQ. Since Mateyshin is a veteran, the licence plate has a poppy on it.
