Canadian Challenge Dog Sled Race Getting Ready to Go

Feb 15, 2011 | 10:19 AM

One week to go, we have lots of snow and the trail crews are going steady! The weather looks like being reasonable, and we have 19 teams to date. We’re pretty happy about that!

A note to mushers: in spite of some confusion in the rules, the mandatory vet check will be in La Ronge only. We will note that at the musher’s meeting. Just not enough vets to handle any more!
The day we get the rules perfect before they’re posted will be a landmark for me. Our proofreaders had all OK’d them . . .

I love the lineup of mushers – should be a good race! I hope everyone has a good time.

You will be live on TV at the start – CTV is broadcasting us live, which means the start will be delayed a couple of minutes to let them get their news out of the way.

Saskatchewan’s Lieutenant Governor will drop the flag for the race and speak at the Musher’s Banquet. Tom Roberts will again MC the Awards breakfast – he says he’s been working on his stories and the tales are even taller now . . sounds like a good time!

Don’t forget to respond – tell us what your concerns are, ask your questions. Failing that, see you at the banquet!

Tickets for the banquet or the breakfast, by the way – race office in Prince Albert, 763-1539, or Gill’s house in Air Ronge, 425-3826.

Have a good week – happy trails to Prince Albert – get lots of sleep because you likely won’t get much next week!
