Rotary Trail – One of Prince Albert’s Greatest Projects is Ongoing Thanks to Community Donations and Involvement

Feb 3, 2011 | 8:20 AM

The first phase of the trail was completed along the riverbank in 2005.

The initial portion of the trail was completed thanks to contributions from the City of Prince Albert and CUPE local 160.

The committee then lauched a major fuindraising campaign that fall to raise the money toward the project.

Hundreds of sponsors from businesses, community service organizations and individuals demonstrated the widespread support for this project.

Individuals sponsored a metre of trail for $50, while the phase level sponsors contributed $50,000.  All the sponsors who contributed at least $5,000 are recognized on a beautifully designed monument at the major kiosk on the south bank of the North Saskatchewan River near River Street and 4th Avenue East.

Work continued on the project for the past five years, with trail stretching from the North Saskatchewan River next to Saskatchewan Penitentary east until 15th Avenue East, south around the eastern edge of the city and winding towards Marquis Road, through Prime Ministers Park and through the Southwood development to Central Avenue.

More work is planned to link the trail in the WestHill and West Flat areas of the City, and eventiually out to Little Red River Park.

It is the completion of these vital links, to truly provide a trail for everyone, that we are seeking the continued support of the Prince Albert City Council members.
